Solitons in nonintegrable systems.
We introduce the concept of this special focus issue on solitons in nonintegrable systems. A brief overview of some recent developments is provided, and the various contributions are described. The topics covered in this focus issue are the modulation of solitons, bores, and shocks, the dynamical evolution of solitary waves, and existence and stability of solitary waves and embedded solitons.
متن کاملAesthetic Trinity Theory and the Sublime
The recently developed Aesthetic Trinity Theory (ATT) is concerned with the categorization, description, and empirical analysis of aesthetic experiences of different quality and intensity — especially peak experiences. Its approach is derived from psychological aesthetics and the emerging field of experimental philosophy. A tripartite hierarchy is proposed: Aesthetic awe, as the peak experience...
متن کاملKant’s Aesthetic Theory: Subjectivity vs. Universal Validity
In the Critique of the Power of Judgment, Kant claims that the judgment of taste is based on a subjective principle, but it has universal validity. This subjective principle determines what pleases and what displeases us only through feeling—not through concepts. The a priori character of taste reflects the transcendental principle of the general acceptability, and only such a transcendental pr...
متن کاملLocalization and Coherence in Nonintegrable Systems
We study the irreversible dynamics of nonlinear, nonintegrable Hamiltonian oscillator chains approaching their statistical asymptotic states. In systems constrained by more than one conserved quantity, the partitioning of the conserved quantities leads naturally to localized and coherent structures. If the phase space is compact, the final equilibrium state is governed by entropy maximization a...
متن کاملConstruction of Special Solutions for Nonintegrable Systems
The Painlevé test is very useful to construct not only the Laurent series solutions of systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations but also the elliptic and trigonometric ones. The standard methods for constructing the elliptic solutions consist of two independent steps: transformation of a nonlinear polynomial differential equation into a nonlinear algebraic system and a search for so...
